What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs). It is primarily used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Semaglutide mimics the effects of a naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1).
GLP-1 is produced in the intestines and helps regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin secretion, reducing glucagon production (a hormone that raises blood sugar levels), slowing down gastric emptying, and promoting feelings of satiety. Our Medical Director has required three labs in the past 90 days—a CBC, CMP, and HgbA1C. We can help you find a lab to get them if you do or don’t have insurance. With Quest (If you don’t have insurance, the cost is around $75 dollars), order them online at ultalabs.com. You can walk in or make an appointment. You will need to fast from midnight until your test for the required lab tests.
